Shanti Van is located in north of Shakti Sthal and Rajghat. It is the memorial of India’s greatest leader and the first prime minister, Jawahar Lal Nehru. Born in Allahabad in 1889, Jawahar Lal Nehru is considered as the father of institutional democracy of the country. Popularly known as ‘Chacha Nehru’ by children, he was the longest serving prime minister of Independent India for over 15 years during which he brought economic and political stability to the new nation and shaped the future of modern India. He is said to be an architect of all Indian policies, this dynamic personality was cremated here in the year 1964. A memorial has been set up at this spot, surrounded by lush green lawns and foliage to honor the leader. A socialist at heart, he was always advocated and worked for a secular, equal and free society. His central objective was “to get rid of the appalling poverty of the people.” He believed in technology and progress, in machines and industrialization and formulated policies to make India a prosperous country. The country lovingly remembers him on his birthday 14th November every year, which is celebrated as ‘Children’s Day’.
